Zoe felt like kissing Sam.

First because he’d offered to give her and Emma some fun time together as well as an opportunity to see some of L.A. And second because he’d thwarted Zach in his bid to come along with them. She’d almost cheered when Zach had had to yield to Sam.

She was beginning to think she’d been wrong about Sam. Maybe he really did like her. Or at least not dislike her. She glanced at him and found him looking at her. She smiled. His answering smile made her feel good.

With Sam as her ally, maybe things would work out. Maybe Emma would realize that in the long run school was more important than the transitory thrill of touring with the band.

Maybe now I can talk to her about my own experience. Not my relationship with Zach, but what it was like on the road. The good things and the bad things. Maybe I can make her understand that it won’t all be wonderful the way she imagines it will…that there’s a price to pay for everything….

And that sometimes, that price is too high.

But would Emma listen?

Or would she be like Zoe was when she was young and think she knew everything there was to know?
